Hi,

Would like to find out if anyone can share their experiences in removing the gum/paint from the processor before proceeding to lift the legs of it??

Appreciate any feedback and thank you in advance.

Regards.

Dave.

Hello,
Use some Epoxy/paint remover. But it is very toxic and you gotta make sure everything (pins and board) is clean after using it because it is current conductive. Once the wax removed use some alcohol to clean.

Hi,
we use a hotair-tool and a fibre-glas pen to remove the
gum on the processors. It takes not much time to scrub
the gum away.

I tried the method suggested above with hot air desoldering tool and fibreglass pencil. It works OK, but I tried it on the resin covering the back PCB of a BMW 5 series dash and I managed to dislodge a microscopic sized smd resistor. Such a panic to find it again, but luckily I managed to spot it! Lesson - BE VERY CAREFUL!!

So that's why I told you to buy and use some Epoxy/Paint remover (nitromorse for example or other brands depending on which country you live in). However it's very toxic; apply it and leave for about 5 minutes and then just wipe it out. Dry and/or clean the excess and admire the result.
