This one came to my shop today with TWO instrument clusters... oviously not both connected ..... My customer bought a replacement from a salvaged car. Original miles in thei car is 69K and the new cluster has 117K.. My questions is plain and simple...... How many miles must be driven to allow the vehicle reset the cluster with the mileage stored in the ignition module?? or... new mileage should pop up inmediately after the new one is plugged in? I've driven the vehicle for about 25 miles and the mileage still there.... Chance are that the customer is cheatting and he want to roll back mileage but he don't dare to ask for "that KIND OF JOB" If the mileage is gonna be set up by itself after certain miles...I don't want to put my hands on the vehicle.... just in the customer's pocket... Thanks!!

milesbetter Senior Member Joined: 01 Aug 2008 Posts: 121	Posted: Thu Nov 27, 2008 12:18 am    Post subject: : MERCEDES BENZ S430 (W220) 2002 08/02 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SWAP Unfortunately the miles that "pop up" will be 117k as that information was transfered to the key module when the cluster was fitted and the key module is sitting there with 117k in it. You now have the problem of re-programming the cluster and key module with the required miles, the best way being zero in the key module and the mileage in the cluster. Un fortunately the car will retain the higher of the mileages and overwrite the lower one. It does not work in reverse, only by re-programming. Arthur.

Milege stay the higher value. I did reset to 0 key module because set himself to 117K, and set new KM in the instrument cluster. Now is working perfect. Now.. I keept the original instrument cluster, and as everybody know is quite expensive. I need to fix the "light off" issue. How to test the smal brownish rectangular power modules in the cluster and where to find replacements? Thanks!!
