I am in the process of trading in my '01 Mustang and while at the dealership, they ran a history report to check the car out. It came back with a HORRIBLE suprise. The odometer reading showed 78,000 miles back in January of '05 and the current reading is on 33,000. Well we have owned the vehicle from the day it hit the lot back in '01 and no "corrections" have ever been made. The problem was that during an instpection, some dimwit typed the reading in wrong and now it has severly screwed me on my trade-in.

What I need to know is, is there any way to prove that the odometer HAS NOT been tampered with or rolled back? I know that since its digital, there is a very small chance but my hopes are that Ford has some trigger in it that red flags a change and that can't be hidden or turned off by a "spinner".

Any help is greatly appreciated guys. I know this is kinda the opposite of the types of questions normally asked but it seems to be the best place to get the right answer.

all this info is stored on the NMR database (national mileage register) linked to hpi etc, the info can be removed, give them a call they will prob want you to fax over your service book pages, old mots etc as evidence, they will then look into it contact bmw etc and will remove the info
