Frederick Guest	Posted: Wed Jul 05, 2006 8:15 am    Post subject: pre-1996 E36? Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to correct the mileage on these models? I’m thinking specifically of a 1995 3.0 (ie pre-Evo) M3. Only I bought some hardware/software to do it, and found it to be incompatible with anything before 1996. Fortunately I got a refund, but I still need the kit... I think the problem was that the package I got (and I can’t sodding remember what it was, as it was a while ago – I think it was either Carsoft or PAsoft) wasn’t compatible with OBD1, which I understand to be the system on this age of E36. Any help very gratefully received. Thanks

BMW started transferring its K-line communication wire to the OBDII from around 2001. Which in other words means they had implemented OBDII from 1996 (like the law required). It was meant for OBD protocol only, such as reading DTC's; like why is the check engine light ON? But anything reserved for programming and coding used K-line protocol and it was at that time whithin the MOdic connector. Pasoft dosen't cover E36 body styles. And carsoft is a diagnostic interface which covers E36 but has nothing to do with mileage calibration. You can do that with the Digaconsult and other PC based cheaper programmer that I will not mention. Serge
