Hi All,
Please advise if the Diga is able to program the above model car as the manual only state for after 2000. Can I also do the 1999 model? Is also the S60 programming same as the S80?
Do I use the same method of soldering using the 908 plug?
Please advise.

Hello,
The 99-2000 S60/S80 use the same 100-pin micro (68HC908) with the same mask 1H56A. So this is answer to your question is YES. |

Hi!, Thanks for the info.
I have manged to remove the legs, read and program the chip. However it is only later that I discover I did not replace the crystal to a 4mhz type.
I went on replacing the crystal and then reassemble the board and took it back to the car to reinstall. However I was unable to get anything from the cluster, the needles and LCD not moving and no light.
I remove the cluster and went back to my office to check all the solders again carefully and I am sure that there are no short circuit on the legs of the chip.
QUESTION...
What should I be doing next?? Must I remove the leg ( I hate this part as I am fearful of damaging the leg)? and a a reprogram? Is there any way I can power up the cluster while in the office to confirm that all connections are in order before travelling 30 mins to the car to reinstall?
Looking forward to you guys advice and expert opinions.

Hello,
If you've lifted pins up on a 2001 S60 then your micro is 80-pin 912D60. The strange part is you shouldn't have been able to get in to memory and program a new mileage without changing the crystal to a 4Mhz (with the Digaconsult)! I don't believe that the fact you didin't change the crystal damaged anything on the board. I believe your solderings are not good. When you solder the pins back on the pcb apply some solder flux on the pads and pins of the micro.
But to be on the safe side redo the whole process, this time put a 4Mhz crystal for programming.
Unfortunately you cannot see the mileage (maybe half a second in some case) when powering this board on the bench. |

Hi,
You are right that my soldering is not good... How I wish I have someone to help me with it....
Anyway, when I read the chip without changing the crystal to a 4 mhz, the mileage display on the digaconsult was 30km different from the original one so I just change the mileage and after that I read the chip again and it show the new mileage. I am PUZZLED by what you are telling me....would I have destory the program this way???
I will be trying to redo the whole thing again.....very stressful lifting those small legs...  but practise makes perfect.....just hope that I do not come in here looking for a replacement cluster....lolz. I also will try apply solder flux to the legs and pad before resoldering.

Hi dave,
To lift up pins I personally use a dental pick. You don't need to apply too much heat and for longtime. It should take a couple of seconds between the moment you heat it and lift it up. Hope you can fix it because when you replace a cluster on a Volvo, not only you cannot start the car but the dash dosen't even light up because it's not coded to the car. Let me know if that happens.
