Hello i have an 06 dodge ram 1500 pick/up 4x4 with the 5.7 hemi/MDS.I have installed after market tires and rims and my speedo is out of whack it says im going a different speed than iam. Also its adding more Km to the vehicle then iam putting on it is there any way to correct this with out switching back to the stock tires I.e a calibration of the cluster/ecm to adjust to the size of tires and a reset for the KM driven as it seems driving with these tires ive added more km then i have driven.

The tire shop where i bought the tires from said they could do it for me but said i will have to replace my computer and do a whole bunch of programming and it would be pretty pricy i figure its pretty eazy thing to do if you have the right tools. Are the tools on this site (Diga-Consult)the right tool for the job ?

TIA
Frank

Hello Frank,
In order to calibrate your speedo with your tires you will need to have the tire size ratio modified in the cluster and the ECM. Some vehicles like Mercedes-Benz offer it through the on-board computer where you can manually enter yout tires sizes and get a correct and proper speed signal. As far as I know Dodge dosen't have it. Also I strongly do not recommend that you install a third party device to correct it. Or do it with a certified Chrysler/Dodge mechanic shop or else you'll lose your warranty (partially). The best thing to do is to call them and inquire. Also, I'm sure that you put bigger tires...therefore the revolution of your tires are slower...therefore you will get a slower speed shown on your dash than the one that you're actually traveling at?! Which also means less mileage.
