Hello, a few days ago I filled my car up while the engine was running, when I got back into the car I noticed the "service engine soon" light was on. I went to the shop that day and they tested the system and said the light come on because of the gas cap was loose and I should not put gas into the car while running. They told me the loght will reset on its own in a few trips. Well its been several trips since and the light is still on. How can I reset the light myself?
Thanks
Dave

Hello,
Sometimes it will not reset by itself. What I don't understand is why the shop that diagnosed your prblem (vacum pressure leak) due to a loose gas cap didn't not reset the light. If it dosen't turn off after a while, you've got two options; either you go to any good mechanic shop and spend about $50 to have it reset or you simply buy a code reader (that can clear codes too) and do it yourself. You can find one between $120-$150 in any car parts store or online. It will display you the fault code number and you'll be able to clear it, which will of course turn your light off...that's it Wink .
