Hello Everyone:
I have been reading through this forum and found lot of good stuff on fixing my mileage display correctly that I want to do after my engine swap.
Ride is a 2004 330CI zhp. I have read thus far here that the mileage data is stored in Speedo Cluster, Keys, LCM and EWS. However, while doing some research I found a note stating:
"The newer BMW models from year 2004 onwards have the mileage stored in similar locations as the older models but, each electronic control unit will store the mileage when there is a fault on that system, e.g. the ABS unit picks up a fault, not only will it record the fault details but also the mileage at which the fault was developed. Now that's a 150+ locations where the mileage can be stored."
But so far after monitoring the forum I have not found anyone stating this and wondered if this is even true? Perhaps it is or perhaps not. Any comments?
Finally, another question I had for the experts is that will the "BMW M35080 On-line Programmer" do the job? Its about a $200 part. Also, will I need to take the speedo cluster out or I can go through the diag connection terminal?
If I need other fancy (more so expensive) equipment I would'nt mind just getting it done from someone.
Any thoughts/advise/comments are appreciated.
Thanks. |

If this can't be done via the diag port aka obd II port, then why does DIGA-Consult website states that it can be done via simple plug and play?
I have spent past several weeks researching this topic and info. seems to be there but not in detail. For example, an e46 made in year XXXX can be done via diag port but if made in year YYYY can't be done via diag port. But at the same time I have checked various software/hardware combo's such as DIGI and PA Soft which state its a plug and play.
What is the reasoning? Is it because BMW decided to make it more difficult to perform this operation?
And why in the hell these equipment/sw manufacturers claiming P'n'P when its not? |
