I think also

because sometimes a crystal has made like a ceramic and looks like a small parts
but I have not seen this kind of crystal yet in dash
sometimes I have seen it in cellular phones and some two way radio

no that is not the crystal its a chip dont even think about bridge ing it

i aint took my clocks apart because i need to take pics of needle positions.etc because its a pain to get them back on and accurate

the crystal u are looking for will be a small thing with 2 or 3 pins and it should look like a small metal rectangle with 2 pins

bit like this: thats the best i could draw with keyboard...lol

Rather than keep searching for the crystal take the eeprom off the board. Program and replace it. Arthur.

Ok, the crystal you are looking for is the small device set at an angle to the micro with three solder points at each side it is metal and has printing on the top giving the value of it, ie. 4.00, 8.00. The outside two solder points of the three on one side should be joined together by soldering a wire to them. The crystal is now shorted and the cluster can now be programmed. Don't forget to remove the shorting wire after programming. May I suggest you look to removing eeproms in the future as this job is only five minutes to remove, program and replace the eeprom. Faster than it has taken me to write this! Arthur.
