sofy Member Joined: 07 Dec 2005 Posts: 39	Posted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 11:00 am    Post subject: : w220 cluster problem Hi Nick, i have did not used my diga in this cluster it is just a problem needed to fix in my workshop and the cluster no need to program or correction mailage. the owner of the cluster had came to my workshop asked me to fix this cluster the cluster has flicking background light on and off all the time this is the problem and it is a common problem with this modeles of cluster in my market.w220 s-calss model 2000,2001 someone advice me to change 2 fuses located in the rear of cluster but after done and changed no any new results . i have need any help or advice coz i think it is a worldwide problem regardes

It begins progressively tough. Everyday the background lights flicker a little more and more until the day it turns to black completely. The problem is caused by the temperature released by some components. The whole thing overheats and starts the progressive destruction of the power inverter (brown color square component) and some transistors (there are a number of 3 concerned, one next to another) will start leaking and creating a short in the circuitry. If the cluster is not repaired it will reach a point where it will blow its own fuse (located under hood) after just a few seconds of turning the key on. Unfortunately some parts are custom made for the dash manufacturer and it would be a big waste of time trying to get them. On top of things this problem dosen't concern just 3 or 4 components but more. So replacing those I mentioned above is the same as replacing one battery only in your flash light; you'll get some result but for a very limited time before the problem occurs again. Serge
